Final Script

SCENE 1 - Ext. Rocky plain - day

The plain is dusty with sand being tossed around by the steadily growing wind.  Large rocks and cliffs loom in the slowly darkening afternoon.

Rolling dark clouds signal an oncoming thunderstorm.

A war cry sounds accompanied by a roll of thunder.

Soldiers fight each other. Clashes of swords.  Screams of pain.

A young SOLDIER stands in the middle of the battle.

SCENE 2 - EXT. Small village FLASHBACK - morning

The SOLDIER waves to his crying MOTHER as he leaves with other soldiers on horseback.

Scene 3 - EXT. Rocky plain - day

A look of fear flashes across his face and he ducks, and throws up his shield to deflect an oncoming attack.

The sky is dark as thunder crashes again, almost drowning out the sound of a scream.

Rain patters on the dusty ground and soaks in.  Blood trickles along the ground and is diluted by the rain.

Scene 4 - ext. Mountain city - afternoon

A city built into the side of a mountain, constructed from a sandy coloured stone. To the centre of the city stands a huge open air cathedral.

A long cobbled path leads up to the city gates. The MOTHER walks alongside a donkey pulling a cart. The young SOLDIER from the battle lies upon it, his face covered with a white cloth; his lifeless body with a white sheet.

She walks slowly along the path toward the city gates and passes through.

Once she makes it to the cathedral she enters through the most ornate open side.

SCENE 5 - Int. open-air cathedral - afternoon

The pews of the cathedral hold people huddled together, praying.  A raised stage of stone is in the centre of the room.  A PRIEST stands upon this stage.  He is old, grey and overworked.  A group of young men stand around him, listening intently.

PRIEST

“Come, children of the Gods.  Show your love and fight on the side of all that is good.”

The MOTHER moves toward the PRIEST. He directs the men to another priest. The first man signs a sheet the priest holds out for him.

The MOTHER of the soldier rushes forward and drops to her knees in front of him and grabs at his robes.

She looks up at him. She is crying.

MOTHER

“Please!  Please help my son!”

The PRIEST looks over where the SOLDIER lays, his face covered.

MOTHER

“You are in the Gods good favour. Please, don’t let them take him yet.”

He takes the MOTHER’s hands.

PRIEST

“He has fought well for our Lords. His time in this life is over.”

The MOTHER wails, shakes her head and cries even more.

MOTher

(pleading)

“No, please, please, I’ll do anything. Anything. Just bring him back. Please.”

She continues to sob and plead.

The PRIEST glances from side to side, and checks to make sure no-one can overhear.

PRIEST

“Very well. I cannot do anything for him, but there is someone who can.”

scene 6 - ext. side street - dusk

The MOTHER leads the donkey out of a side entrance to the cathedral. She is being led by another priest wearing dark robes. Even though he is a priest he is one of a slightly darker nature. He is known as the NECROMANCER. 

NECROMANCER

“You should be proud of your boy.  He will continue to fight on the side of our Lords, even after death.”

The MOTHER nods at the NECROMANCER.

SCENE 7 - Int. necromancer’s study - dusk

The walls of the NECROMANCER’s study are covered in masks and shelves with strange things stacked upon them.  Books cover a shabby desk and an alter has been set up on the back wall.  A chalk symbol has been drawn onto the floor.

The SOLDIER has been placed into the centre of this chalk symbol.

The NECROMANCER stands at the edge of the circle.

The MOTHER stands opposite him.

The NECROMANCER begins muttering nonsense words and the room fades to blackness around them.

Lights float up from the chalk lines and the body stirs beneath the sheet.

The NECROMANCER continues to chant.

The MOTHER watches.

The body under the sheet jerks horribly and a black demon with red eyes rises from the body.

The MOTHER lets out a scream.

Fade to black.

Quote appears on screen. (not yet decided)

So once again I forgot about Tumblr so expect a hell of a lot of posts in one go!! :)

2 minute animation

Thought I had better start updating this blog regarding my two minute film.

• It currently has the title “Death and Rebirth” though this is subject to change.
• The script has been through 1 complete rewrite and 5 drafts.
• I am close to finishing the script breakdown.
• If the breakdown is accepted the storyboard can be started this week.
• Have become a client for a student on the BA Hons Music Practise course and she is currently developing a sample.  (Have discussed the kind of style of the music, and ritual chanting will be used at particular moments.  Voice supplied by her.)
• The ritual chant is written out in English and I will be asking in the Fylde building to see if someone would be willing to translate it into Latin.
• Have found someone to do the voices for the two male characters. Still searching for a female voice.
• Have researched Medieval cathedrals/churches and clothing for the design of the film.  Have decided to use Warhammer Warrior Priests as a starting point for the Priest in my film as they have interesting armor.
• Considering building the cathedral in 3DS Max instead of drawing.
